One crore families will get Soybean oil at Rs 110 per liter

The state-owned marketing company Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will sell Soybean oil to one crore households at Tk 110 per liter. TCB cardholders will be able to buy this oil at a fair price from next June. Tapan Kanti Ghosh, senior secretary in the commerce ministry, said on Saturday.



"From next June, we will be selling Soybean oil at the same price to one crore cardholder families," the Commerce Secretary told Bangladesh News Agency Sangbad Sangstha. The government plans to import Soybean oil directly through TCB. Bangladesh missions abroad have already been approached for the purchase of Soybean oil through state-owned enterprises.


Since the recent rise in the price of Soybean oil in the world market, the government has been trying to ensure the supply of this oil to the people at the lowest prices.


Earlier, the Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners & Vanaspati Manufacturers Association said in a press release on Thursday that open Soybean oil was Tk 180 per liter, up from Tk 140 so far. Bottled Soybean oil has been increased from Tk  160 per liter to Tk 198. The price of a 5-liter bottle has been fixed from Tk 760 to Tk 985. The new price is effective from Saturday.


With this, the price of edible oil has increased for the third time in the last 4 months. Data analysis shows that soybean and palm oil are some of the consumer goods prices that have risen in the last four years. In 2019, the price of bottled Soybean was Tk 104 per liter in the domestic market. In 2020 it will increase to 113 rupees, in 2021 to 130 rupees and in early 2022 it will increase from 168 to 170 rupees. Now 185 to 190 rupees.


.A liter (open) of palm oil was Tk 58 in 2019, Tk 78 per liter in 2020, Tk 107 in 2021, and Tk 150 in early 2022. Now 165 rupees.
