Two Bangladeshi films postpone their releases due to elections and other factors

Fans of Bangladeshi  will Film have to wait a little longer to watch two of the most awaited films of this year, “Kajol Rekha” and “Dorod”. Both films have decided to delay their releases for various reasons, including the 12th Parliamentary Elections that took place in December 2023.

“Kajol Rekha”, directed by Giasuddin Selim, is a film based on a mythical character from the Maimansingha Gitika, a collection of folk ballads. The film boasts a star-studded cast, featuring Shariful Razz, Rafiath Rashid Mithila, Sahana Rahman Sumi, Sadia Ayman, Azad Abul Kalam, Iresh Zaker, Khairul Bashar, Rahmat Ali, Gaoshul Alam Shaon and others. The film was supposed to hit the theatres on February 2, 2024, but it has been postponed due to a bureaucratic hurdle.

According to Selim, the film is financed by the government, and therefore, it requires the approval of the Minister for Information and Broadcasting before it can be sent to the Bangladesh Censor Board for a nationwide release. However, the minister has not been able to watch the film yet, as he has been busy with the post-election affairs. Selim said that he is waiting for the minister to settle down and then invite him for a special premiere. He hopes that the film will be released sometime between February and March 2024.

“Dorod”, on the other hand, is a psychological thriller starring Bangladeshi superstar Shakib Khan and Bollywood actress Sonal Chauhan. The film is directed by Anonno Mamun and produced by SK Movies, One World Movies, Bangladesh’s Action Cut Entertainment, and Kibria Films. The film is a pan-Indian project, as it will be dubbed in six languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, and released in 30 countries across the world. The film was scheduled to be released on February 9, 2024, but it has been pushed back for several reasons.

Mamun said that he wants to surprise the audience with a good film, and therefore, he needs more time to prepare the movie. He also said that he has some innovative plans for the promotion of the film, such as doing interactive activities with Shakib Khan’s fans and releasing the trailer and song of the film with 50,000 of them at a venue. He also said that he is trying to get the songs of the movie released by the popular Indian label T-Series, which would be beneficial for the film industry. He has not revealed the poster of the film yet, as part of his unique promotional strategy.

Both “Kajol Rekha” and “Dorod” are expected to be blockbuster hits, as they have generated a lot of buzz among the audience. However, the fans will have to be patient and wait for the official announcements of the new release dates of the films.
