Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury is set to appear in a new film by acclaimed director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. The film, titled ‘Monogamy’ (Last Defenders of Monogamy), explores the lives and relationships of three characters who struggle to maintain their fidelity in a changing world.

The first look at the film’s lead characters was revealed on social media by Farooki and Chowdhury on Saturday. The film features Chowdhury as a middle-aged man who is married to Prema, a debutant actress. Xefer, a popular singer and songwriter, plays the role of a young woman who becomes involved with Chowdhury’s character.

Farooki, who is known for his realistic and socially relevant films, said that the film is inspired by the moments of our lives. “The story of the film is much like moments of our lives! Chanchal Bhai made these moments with his great charisma. Xefer is a music person. But she continues to perform equally. I want to say the same thing about Prema. I’m at my best when the actors are at their peak”, he wrote on Facebook.

Chowdhury, who has worked with Farooki for almost twenty years, said that he enjoys finding new characters and challenges himself as an actor. “Last Defender of Monogamy. I’m acting in a middle-aged role. Almost twenty years of working relationship with elder brother Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. The audience can expect something good again. Because Farooki Bhai’s hand is more mature now. To note: Finding new characters is my addiction,” he wrote on Facebook.

The film is currently in production and is expected to be released on Chorki, an OTT platform that offers original web films from Bangladesh. ‘Monogamy’ is one of the 12 web films under the ‘Ministry of Love’ project, which aims to showcase diverse stories of love and romance from different perspectives.
