The death toll from a magnitude 7 earthquake in the Aegean Sea has risen to 27 in Turkey and Greece. The quake killed at least 25 people in the Turkish city of Izmir.

The quake, which struck on Friday, killed at least two people in Greece.

At least 20 buildings collapsed in an earthquake in Izmir. The region is still reeling from the quake. Meanwhile, rescue workers are carrying out rescue operations in the wreckage, the local administration said. They said 470 more shocks were felt there.

On Saturday, rescuers rescued a mother and her four children from the rubble of a building.

Officials said rescue work had been completed in eight collapsed buildings. Rescue work is still underway in at least nine other buildings.

At least 804 people have been injured in an earthquake in Turkey.

Leaders of the two neighbors, Turkey and Greece, who have recently been embroiled in a dispute over various issues, spoke to each other on the phone on Friday night after the quake and expressed sympathy for each other.
