| Pori Moni's Birthday Surprise, "Farzana" |
This year, actress Pori Moni's birthday celebration was decorated with Night-flowering jasmine. A person sent the flowers by plane from Chattogram, but who that person is remains unknown. Pori Moni was moved by the gesture. She also had a surprise of her own at the event, announcing her new film Farzana. She said shooting for the film, directed by Tarek Rahman, is nearly complete.
Yesterday, Saturday, October 24, was Pori Moni's birthday. That evening she hosted a lavish celebration at a restaurant near the Purbachal Expressway in Dhaka, with close friends, colleagues and journalists. The staircase at the venue was decorated with Night-flowering jasmine and she arrived in a sari printed with a Night-flowering jasmine design. From the decor to the outfit, everything had a touch of Night-flowering jasmine.
Pori Moni said, "I did everything with Night-flowering jasmine in mind. I even posted a status on Facebook asking someone to bring me lots of Night-flowering jasmine. But that's not really possible. These flowers can't be kept fresh even for four or five hours. Yet someone sent me Night-flowering jasmine from Chattogram by flight."
She said that although the flowers were flown in from Chattogram, she couldn't make full use of them. She had wanted to turn the whole venue into a garden of Night-flowering jasmine, but it didn't work out. So, besides the decorations, she carried the Night-flowering jasmine theme into her outfit.
At the event, Pori Moni also shared news of her new film. The movie, titled Farzana, is being directed by Tarek Rahman. About it, the actress said, "There's a surprise on my birthday. I thought you would ask me about it, so I came prepared with an answer. I felt this was a good time, and that we could talk about work here too."
Speaking about the film's progress, Pori Moni said, "We finalized the look six months ago. Various problems came up when we went to work. The shooting is ongoing, and some work remains. I'll let you know once the rest is done."

At the event, director Tarek Rahman spoke hopefully about the film. He said, "We're about to begin a beautiful journey. Pori Moni's character is that of a struggling woman. I hope the journey will be a good one. You will discover a new Pori Moni."
At one point during the celebration, Pori Moni expressed gratitude for the love she has received over the years from her audience and well-wishers. She said she wants to repay that love through good work.
Pori Moni said, "From the very beginning, the way everyone has given me love, stood by me and blessed me, loving me above everything else, I'm grateful for that love. In return, I can give nothing but beautiful work. Please pray that I can do just that."
