Dhaka ranks fifth in air pollution among 109 cities in the world as of 10 am today. Dhaka scores 192 in Air Quality Index (AQI) of IQAir. Air quality is considered 'unhealthy'.

Dhaka topped the AQI air quality yesterday at 9:30 am on Friday. Dhaka's score at that time was 294.

India's Delhi topped the list of polluted air cities at 10 am today. The city has a score of 414. Pakistan's Lahore and Karachi are in the second and third position respectively. Lahore scored 371 and Karachi scored 246.

This situation of air pollution is regularly highlighted by the Swiss organization AQI. A live or instant AQI based on air quality informs and alerts people about how clean or polluted the air is in a particular city.

According to the aQI criteria, a score of 51 to 100 is considered 'moderate' or 'acceptable' air quality. A score of 101 to 150 is considered 'unhealthy for sensitive groups'.

Dhaka city dwellers spent the most number of days in inclement weather last January. The capital's air quality was poor for a total of 9 days in January, the highest in the last 7 years.

People in sensitive groups are most at risk when air pollution is high. Among them are the elderly, children, pregnant women and people suffering from complex diseases. Experts advise that they need to be especially careful.
