Dengue Outbreak in Bangladesh: 15 more die, 2,158 hospitalised in a day

Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes that causes flu-like symptoms and can sometimes lead to serious complications. Bangladesh is currently facing a record outbreak of dengue, with more than 2,20,000 cases and over 1,000 deaths reported this year.

The outbreak has been especially severe in the capital Dhaka, where eight of the 15 deaths reported in the last 24 hours occurred. The city has been struggling to cope with the influx of patients and the shortage of hospital beds, blood and medicine.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), at least 2,158 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the same period. As of yesterday morning, 9,171 dengue patients were undergoing treatment at different hospitals nationwide.

The DGHS has urged people to take preventive measures against dengue, such as wearing long-sleeved clothes, using mosquito repellents and nets, and keeping their surroundings clean and free of stagnant water. The DGHS has also advised people to seek medical attention as soon as they experience any symptoms of dengue, such as fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, rash, nausea and vomiting.

There is no specific treatment or vaccine for dengue, but early diagnosis and supportive care can reduce the risk of complications and death.
