Rajshahi University's Recruitment Suspension Lifted After a Long Wait

 

After a long and challenging period of two and a half years, Rajshahi University (RU) can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the education ministry has lifted the suspension on all types of recruitment. The eagerly awaited notification was issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division (SHED), signaling a new chapter for the institution and its aspiring educators and administrative staff.

The news was confirmed by Prof Pradip Kumar Panday, administrator of RU's public relations office, who shared the details with The Daily Star. According to the notification, the suspension was withdrawn in response to an application submitted by RU authorities, emphasizing the need to restore the university's academic and administrative activities to full capacity.

The SHED's decision grants the university the green light to initiate all recruitment activities in line with their existing policies, thereby enabling the institution to replenish its faculty and staff ranks and bring fresh talent on board.

Prof Pradip expressed his contentment with the news, stating, "We have just received the letter. Now we will discuss it with the vice-chancellor and take necessary arrangements afterward." This demonstrates the university's readiness to move forward and embark on a process of rejuvenation and growth.

The suspension on recruitment was imposed on December 10, 2020, after investigations by the education ministry revealed evidence of corruption and irregularities in the appointment of teachers at RU. The actions of the then VC Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-VC Prof Choudhury Zakaria led to a suspension that had far-reaching consequences for the university's academic and research activities.
